Township Statistics – General Information

Location: Wayne Township is in the west central portion of Marion County, adjacent to the Indianapolis International Airport. The Education Center is located on the southwest corner of High School Road and Morris Streets, west of I-465 and north of US 40 (Washington Street).

Superintendent: Dr. Jeff Butts

Mission Statement: Provide multiple opportunities for learning that meet or exceed the present and future goals and aspirations of our students, in partnership with our community.

School Board: An elected seven member board. Board members are elected at large and serve four-year terms.

Staff: All elementary schools have full-time principals, asst. principals, media specialist, physical education, art, music teachers, and a nurse, in addition to classroom teachers, paraprofessionals, classroom assistants, clerical, custodial, and cafeteria personnel. At the secondary level, there are additional assistant principals and guidance personnel.

Affiliations: The school district is a member of the Central Indiana Educational Service Center, the Indiana Urban School Association, the Indiana Public Schools/University Partnership, and Indiana Public School Study Council. It is the local educational administrator for the West Central Joint Services Special Education Cooperative and the Area 31 Careers programs.

Facilities: All schools are well equipped and maintained. There are 11 elementary schools, the newest being Bridgeport Elementary which opened in the fall of 2004. Former Fulton Junior High re-opened as Chapel Hill 7th & 8th Grade Center in August of 2007. Former South Wayne Junior High underwent a renovation and opened as Lynhurst 7th & 8th Grade Center in August of 2005. There was an extensive renovation/addition project at Ben Davis High School which was completed during the summer of 2002. Another addition on the front of Ben Davis High School provided twenty new classrooms which opened in August, 2006. The Ben Davis Ninth Grade Center opened in August, 2005. Ben Davis University High School opened in August, 2007 in the former Ben Davis Junior High School and went through a renovation which was completed in January, 2009. Wayne Township Preschool opened in August, 2009.
