Student Artists Honored at District Competition

Artists from each school in the MSD of Wayne Township received recognition Monday, March 13 at the district’s 11th annual Superintendent’s Art Competition.

The competition, begun by MSD Wayne Superintendent Jeff Butts in 2012, was celebrated at a reception and awards ceremony at the MSD Wayne Education Center. Art teachers from each MSD Wayne school selected one piece of student art to represent their building. Each student artist received a plaque at the awards ceremony.

Two students received special recognition as overall elementary and secondary winners. Those students were Izzy Hinton from McClelland Elementary and Arely Contreres from the Ben Davis Ninth Grade Center. Their works have been purchased by Superintendent Butts and will hang in the Superintendent’s Art Gallery at the Education Center.

The other students recognized at the March 13 ceremony were Peniel Alagbada from Chapelwood Elementary, Susana Alvarado-Hernandez from Bridgeport Elementary, Adan Becerril from Ben Davis University High School, Jenna Bechdol from Achieve Virtual 7-12, Rosemary Castaneda from North Wayne Elementary, Jaritza Chimal-Gomez from Maplewood Elementary, Daniel Corona from Sanders School, Wyatt DeLong from Robey Elementary, Sophi Ford from Chapel Hill 7 th & 8 th Grade Center, Carmen Lopez from Lynhurst 7 th & 8 th Grade Center, Skye Marmolejo from Wayne Township Preschool, Israel Medina-Arreola from Rhoades Elementary, Brayden Molina-Gallardo from Achieve Virtual K-6, Mary Riley from Ben Davis High School, Shelby Rodriguez from Stout Field Elementary, Scarlette Galvez Sandoval from Garden City Elementary, and Kennedy Thorpe from Westlake Elementary.

The works of each student artist will be on display at the Education Center, 1220 South High School Road, through the end of 2023.
