Two MSD Wayne Students Receive Lilly Endowment Scholarships
Steve Akinterinwa and Mariangel Morales Aparicio, high school seniors in the Metropolitan School District of Wayne Township, have received prestigious Lilly Endowment Community Scholarships. They are two of nine winners of this scholarship this year in Marion County.
Steve is a student at Ben Davis University High School, and valedictorian for the class of 2020. Mariangel is a senior at Ben Davis High School.
Recipients of the Lilly Endowment Scholarship will receive up to four years of full tuition to attend any accredited public or private not-for-profit college or university in Indiana.
Including this year, 4,769 full-tuition scholarships have been awarded to Indiana students since Lilly Endowment Inc. launched the program in 1998. Since then, more than $405 million in scholarship tuition has been provided through the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Program.
“We’re thrilled that two of our students have received the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship,” said MSD Wayne Superintendent Jeff Butts. “Steve and Mariangel have worked tremendously hard, and have been supported by a great school system and community. We couldn’t be prouder of their achievement.”
ABOUT LILLY ENDOWMENT COMMUNITY SCHOLARSHIPS
The primary purposes of the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Program are 1) to help raise the level of educational attainment in Indiana; 2) to increase awareness of the beneficial roles Indiana community foundations can play in their communities; and 3) to encourage and support the efforts of current and past Lilly Endowment Community Scholars to engage with each other and with Indiana business, governmental, educational, nonprofit and civic leaders to improve the quality of life in Indiana generally and in local communities throughout the state.
