Ben Davis Ninth Grade Center and Lynhurst 7th & 8th Grade Center Recognized for STEM Education

May 17, 2023

Ben Davis Ninth Grade Center was recently announced as a 2022-2023 STEM Certified School. As a newly certified leader in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education, Ben Davis Ninth Grade Center joins a list of STEM-certified schools in M.S.D. of Wayne Township, including Bridgeport Elementary, Ben Davis High School, and Area 31 Career Center.

In addition, Lynhurst 7th & 8th Grade Center also received a new designation as Developing in STEM Certification, highlighting their emerging STEM programs and the strides they are taking to create an engaging STEM culture and empower students to innovate through integrated STEM learning experiences.

Created in 2015, the STEM Certification program recognizes a school’s commitment to teaching STEM disciplines beyond the classroom. STEM Certification exemplifies a highly innovative approach to education, employing a great deal of inquiry, project-based learning, community engagement, entrepreneurship, student-centered classrooms, integration into humanities and related arts, and out-of-school STEM activities. For secondary schools, in particular, earning STEM certification requires heightened intention and coordination in terms of vision, scheduling, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
