Ben Davis High School Football Coach Moving On To A New Opportunity

Today, Ben Davis High School football coach Jason Simmons announced plans to pursue a new coaching opportunity.

Simmons, who started his coaching career in 1999, has been the head football coach at Ben Davis High School since 2018. During his five seasons as head coach, the team has gone to three final fours in 2019, ‘20, and ‘21 and won two MIC Championships in ‘19 and ‘22.

Simmons told Ben Davis administration before telling the football team, “It would have taken a lot for me to leave here. It’s an opportunity to pursue a dream job at the next level.”

“Wayne Township has been great to our family, great to me personally and professionally,” said Simmons. “Our family is grateful for the opportunity provided by Superintendent Dr. Jeff Butts, Principal Sandi Squire, and Athletic Director Heather McGowan. In addition, the opportunity to lead this program’s great group of young men has been invaluable to me. I know they will continue to be successful on and off the field.”

The feeling of respect and appreciation is mutual. “It’s been a tremendous honor to have Jason lead and mentor our student-athletes,” said Ben Davis High School Athletic Director Heather McGowan. “Jason has positively influenced our student-athletes and athletic department and has been a tremendous asset to our culture and community. We will miss his leadership but are very excited about the opportunity afforded to him.”

Ben Davis High School Principal Sandi Squire said, “Going from good to great requires a leader who builds such a great organization, it continues to be great without them. Coach Simmons has built such a program at Ben Davis High School. While he will be deeply missed, I have no doubt that our excellence will continue. Ben Davis High School will work quickly over the next several weeks to find a new head of this program, and I am confident the transition will be smooth. We look forward to the next chapter of Ben Davis football.”
