Westside Community Garden Continues to Provide Bounty for Our Neighbors

For more than a decade, members of the Wayne Township community have been planting and harvesting at the Westside Community Garden on Washington Street.

The gardens are a joint project of the MSD of Wayne Township and an organization called Go Love Indy, sponsored by Chapel Rock Christian Church. The gardens are located at the site of the former Bridgeport Elementary.

“Not only does growing your own vegetables save hundreds of dollars in food expenses, but it brings families together as they plant and harvest fresh foods for their own dinner table,” say the project’s organizers. “The Westside Community Garden also offers a time of friendship and fellowship as seasoned gardeners lend advice to rookies.”

Approximately 65 gardeners per year cultivate, plant, tend, and harvest from their plots. Master gardener Frank Reynolds and his wife Joyce (pictured), are among the members of the Wayne Township community who enjoy the garden each year.
