Board of Education, Teachers Association Oppose Indiana House Bill 1005

The Metropolitan School District of Wayne Township Board of Education and the Wayne Township Classroom Teachers Association have signed a joint resolution opposing Indiana House Bill 1005. The bill would allow the establishment of education savings accounts that funnel state funding to parents who withdraw their children from public schools. It would also significantly expand the Indiana school choice scholarship program.

“Public funds should be invested in public schools, which serve all children,” the joint resolution reads in part. “Non-public schools lack fiscal transparency, public oversight, taxpayer accountability, and are not required to enroll all children.”

The joint resolution was passed at the Board of Education’s regularly scheduled meeting March 8. View resolution here.
