Carrier, Area 31 Career Center Celebrate Partnership

Over the last three years, Carrier, whose residential headquarters are based on the west side of Indianapolis, has donated $45,000 to the Area 31 Career Center located at Ben Davis High School. These funds have helped propel the Area 31 Heating and Air Conditioning Program, as well as provide support for future HVAC technicians in the community.

In addition, Carrier recently donated two OptiClean™ air scrubbers to Area 31. One was placed in the nurse’s office at Ben Davis to help improve the indoor air quality for students and staff while being evaluated. The other one is being used in the Heating and Air Conditioning Program’s classroom as a teaching tool. The OptiClean Dual-Mode Air Scrubber & Negative Air Machine has been named one of TIME’s 100 Best Inventions of 2020.

On Tuesday, January 12, Carrier and Area 31 Career Center staff hosted a presentation ceremony to celebrate their relationship. Justin Keppy, Carrier’s President of North America Residential & Light Commercial, and Chris Kafura, the company’s Senior Director of Engineering, North America Residential & Light Commercial, took part in the presentation. Patrick Biggerstaff, MSD Wayne’s Director of Career and Technical Education, represented Area 31. Cory Darling, Instructor for the Heating and Air Conditioning Program, was on hand to accept a ceremonial check representing Carrier’s financial support of the program.
