MSD Wayne Pandemic Response Plan – Updated July 7, 2020

This page will be updated regularly with information on the district’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Wayne Reopening Plan: For the 2020-2021 school year, MSD Wayne students will have access to learn at school or learn at home (English | Spanish).  Students will not be able to switch back and forth between learning options.  Students in K-8 grade will commit to a learning option for a minimum of a nine-week grading period.  High school students must commit for a semester at a time.

A student who does not have a medically diagnosed condition that would prevent them from wearing a mask will be expected/required to wear a mask as directed.  Students who are not willing to wear their mask as expected/directed are strongly encouraged to enroll in the Wayne@Home (K-8) or Achieve Virtual Education Academy (Achieve Virtual) beginning on July 29.  Please review the link in the next paragraph for more information.

To support a safe and comfortable school learning environment, we are taking intentional precautions to protect students and staff from COVID-19.  Use these links (English | Spanish) for detailed information on the following topics:

  • Masks and Handwashing
  • Staff Training
  • Visitors / Volunteers
  • Clinic / Nurse Procedures
  • Seating Charts for Classrooms, Buses, and Cafeterias
  • Student Water Bottles, Handwashing, Hand Sanitizer
  • ExtraCurricular Activities

Students in grades K-8 will use ItsLearning management software with daily instruction and support from a licensed MSD Wayne teacher. Students will receive instruction through daily live class meetings, small group meetings, and one-on-one meetings.  There will also be some pre-recorded lessons, reading activities, and independent activities that are assigned to students.  Students should expect to be engaged in learning approximately 5 hours daily.

Students in grades 9-12 will enroll in Achieve Virtual Education Academy (Achieve Virtual). Achieve utilizes ItsLearning management software and offers a full selection of high school courses.  Students will receive instruction through pre-recorded lessons, videos, reading activities, assignments and progress at their own pace. Their progress will be monitored by a licensed Achieve Virtual instructor, and their course content will be delivered via the software. The time to complete the course work is comparable to in-person learning.

MSD Wayne Superintendent Jeff Butts is currently providing a weekly update on our district pandemic responses on WBDG, Indy’s Giant 90.9. We will post these updates each week on this page.
