Student Artists Honored at District Competition

Artists from each school in the MSD of Wayne Township received recognition Monday, February 10 at the district’s 9th annual Superintendent’s Art Competition.

The competition, begun by MSD Wayne Superintendent Jeff Butts in 2012, was celebrated at a reception and awards ceremony at the MSD Wayne Education Center. Art teachers from each MSD Wayne school selected one piece of student art to represent their building. Each student artist received a plaque at the awards ceremony.

Two students received special recognition as overall elementary and secondary winners. Those students were Brittany Peralta from Rhoades Elementary and Kaleah Toomer from the Ben Davis Ninth Grade Center. Their works have been purchased by Superintendent Butts and will hang in the Superintendent’s Art Gallery at the Education Center.

The other students recognized at the February 10 ceremony were Jordyn Ault, Westlake Elementary; Tyler Banks, Sanders School; Jacob Barger, Wayne Preparatory Academy; Shelby Crowe, Robey Elementary; Trinity Cumming, North Wayne Elementary; Alexis Duque, Garden City Elementary; Amiah Hamilton, Stout Field Elementary; Zavien Kinmon, Wayne Township Preschool; Emily Li, Lynhurst 7th & 8th Grade Center; Lupita Lopez-Carrera, McClelland Elementary; Amalfi Maldonado-Fernandez, Maplewood Elementary; Allyson Meyer, Chapel Hill 7th & 8th Grade Center; Olivia Perez, Bridgeport Elementary; Daniela Toral Hernandez, Ben Davis High School; Natalia Torres-Ojeda, Ben Davis University High School; Ivy Tyler, Chapel Glen Elementary; and LaShonda Ware, Chapelwood Elementary.

The works of each student artist will be on display at the Education Center, 1220 South High School Road, through the end of 2020.
