Wayne Walks: A New Tradition

The music being played over Stout Field Elementary’s public address system was fitting for the occasion. It was the theme from the television show “Cheers,” with the memorable line: “Sometimes you wanna go where everybody knows your name.”

As that song was broadcast over speakers throughout the school, high school seniors who had attended Stout Field as elementary students entered the building, sporting their caps and gowns. It was part of a new district-wide program called Wayne Walks.

During the month of May, seniors at Ben Davis High School and Ben Davis University High School had the opportunity to return to their elementary and middle schools one last time as MSD of Wayne Township students. Wearing their caps and gowns, they walked through the hallways to the cheers of younger students taking a momentary break from class.

“Wayne Walks has been so much fun for our entire district,” said MSD Wayne Superintendent Jeff Butts. “It has been a treat to see the joy on the faces of our soon-to-be graduates, and the looks of excitement and admiration on the faces of the younger students as they watch the sea of purple robes pass by.”

More than one thousand high school seniors and adult learners are graduating in MSD Wayne in 2017.
